Design

Meticulously selected Japanese coral,
highly valued throughout the world,
and red coral from the Mediterranean, are used in Glous’ jewelry.

Highly skilled and experienced craftsmen carefully create each piece
that has been designed by Glous’ jewelry designers.

Life Style

Glous uses only carefully selected pearls. These include not only Japanese Akoya pearls and Mabé pearls, but white, black and gold Southern pearls, and natural conch pearls from Central and South America.

Wearing pearls to a party or special event not only flatters the wearer but has the effect of making the skin tone appear whiter and smoother.

History

Coral wards off bad luck and brings good fortune.

Coral was discovered around 2000 years ago in the Mediterranean. It was used as a protective amulet during the days of the Roman Empire, while Queen Anne is said to have worn coral for protection when giving birth.
Coral was introduced into Japan via the Silk Road between the 7th and 8th centuries and became a much-prized treasure alongside gold and silver. An original coral tree and coral beads used by the Emperor Shoumu in the ceremony to consecrate the Great Buddha is still held in the Nara Shousouin.
Japanese coral was first discovered in Tosa Province (Kochi Prefecture) at the end of the Edo Period. Although coral wasn’t sourced on a full scale until the Meiji Period, quality Japanese red coral is highly valued around the world today as something that represents the ultimate in luxury. Coral continues to be popular throughout the world as a symbol of wealth and as a jewel that wards off bad luck and brings good fortune.

The Pearl - the first precious gem discovered by man.

The pearl is said to be the first precious gem discovered by man. It has a long history in Japan, and had already been mentioned in the early 8th century Kojiki [Records of Ancient Matters].
Japan also became known as a source of pearls as they were also exported. Even Christopher Columbus is said to have been fascinated by Japanese pearls.
Natural Akoya pearls, which were regarded as the most beautiful of pearls, were extremely valuable, as 10,000 Akoya shells would only yield one or two pearls.
Pearls were primarily worn by royalty and the aristocracy, and prices continued to rise steeply. However, ongoing research resulted in the ability to farm pearls that are as beautiful as natural pearls. As a result, many people are now able to enjoy the beautiful luster and glow characteristic to these gems.
